Tammy Johnson

Hello My Name Is...

Tammy Johnson

I am so excited to be teaching at Moody High School!  I have a bachelor's degree in education from Southwestern Assemblies of God University and a master's degree in special education from Concordia University. I am from China Spring and live in McGregor. My husband and I have eight children from 15 to 25 years of age and seven grandchildren (with number eight on the way).  We love to go fishing and cook together as a family.  We also spend a lot of time at the theater, as our youngest children are involved in drama and choir.  I love literature and writing and I am looking forward to helping you learn to love it, too!

Every student should have a Chromebook.  Bring the Chromebook to class with you, charged and ready to use, every day.  With access to Google Classroom through your school email account, you will be able to access every assignment and collaborate with your classmates and me from anywhere.  Everything we do in class, all due dates, and every resource you will need will be found in Classroom.

English 4 students:  You're almost to the finish line!  I am so proud of the way all of you finished out the fall semester.  The toughest work is behind you!  For the spring semester, we will begin the year with poetry!  We will be taking a field trip to Baylor University's Armstrong-Browning Library in Waco on Febriary 13.  This library celebrates the lives of two very famous British poets and their love story.  We will also be going to the Waco Civic Theatre on March 28 to see "The Three Musketeers"!  We have a class novel study coming up and we will be doing some creative writing as well.  This spring should be fun!

English 3 students:  I am also proud of the way you finished strong last semester.  This semester will begin with the research paper.  We will break it down into parts and take plenty of time in class to work on it.  We will then have whole class novel studies, book clubs, and look at persuasion in media.  Let's tackle this research paper and end the year with a bang!

Novel studies and AR:  All English 3 and 4 students will be responsible for one independent novel study every nine weeks (Pre-AP students will be required to complete two every nine weeks.)  This will be in conjunction with your AR requirements.  I have prepared a list of authors for both American Literature (English 3) and British Literature (English 4) from which you may choose.  These authors have written quality literature that corresponds with the objectives for your class. If you complete the novel study, you will fulfill the AR requirements for that grading period.  This semester, you MUST do your novel studies on your AR books AND they MUST be from an approved author or I will not accept the assignment.  So many grades suffered from laziness of not taking AR tests last semester.  Let's not make the same mistake this semester!
