Texas Assessment Initiative (TSI)

TSI Information

The TSI Assessment is the official assessment test for the state of Texas. Students who meet the minimum passing standards for TSI Assessment in all subject areas are deemed to have met the requirements of the Texas Success Initiative. Students who do not make a passing score in one or more subject areas on the TSI Assessment will be required to complete developmental course work.

The law requires all entering college students to be assessed for college readiness in reading, mathematics and writing unless the student qualifies for an exemption. Each student who fails to meet the minimum passing standard of TSI Assessment must be placed in a developmental education program designed to help the student achieve college readiness.

Writing:  Essay of 5 OR Essay of 4 AND Multiple Choice Score of 363

Math:  350

What does this mean for me?

If you plan to participate in dual credit, you must meet the criteria for the course you in which you intend to enroll.  Students requesting History, Government, or Economics must meet the college readiness standard or exemption for reading.  Students requesting English must meet the college readiness standard or exemption for reading and writing.  Students requesting Math must meet the college readiness standard for Math (there are no exemptions for Math….TSI scores must be met).

What if I did not meet the college readiness standard or exemptions, but I am interested in the dual credit program?

Students may retake the TSI in its entirety or by section.  Students wanting to retest will need to make arrangements with the testing center located on the MCC campus and will be responsible for all testing fees.  You can contact the testing center at 254-299-8453.

REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT YOU USE YOUR TSI SCORES TO ENTER THE DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM, PLEASE USE THIS INFORMATION AS A TOOL TO PLAN FOR YOUR FUTURE.  IF YOU ARE “COLLEGE READY”, CONTINUE TO SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS AND CHALLENGE YOURSELF TO TAKE ADVANCED COURSES.  IF YOU DID NOT MEET THE STANDARD FOR COLLEGE READINESS, PLEASE DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED.  CONTINUE TO WORK HARD IN YOUR CLASSES AND FOCUS ON IMPROVING YOUR AREAS OF WEAKNESS.
